I’m not much of a fast food junkie – and I’ve never been a big fan of McDonald’s but I have to say – I totally respect their McRib strategy. No one really knows why this has not become a regular item. But Facebook pages have lobbied to “bring the McRib back” and this morning on the news – yes on the news – the co-anchors were discussing the merits of the McRib.
Marta Fearon, McDonald’s US Marketing director admits that bringing it back every so often adds to the excitement. In the past they would only sell the McRib in certain locations. This time it’s at all locations until November 14th. Building in a sense of urgency.
So what can we learn from the golden arches?
- Having something unique and not making it ubiquitous has value.
- If it works – stick with it.
- Let your brand get hijacked.
Oh, and at only 500 calories and 26 grams of fat, it’s slightly healthier than the Big Mac.

For weeks I went to your blog page with the constant hope that you’d be back. I had almost given up and hadn’t been back for weeks. Today the sun came up and life is good again.
The following should get me caught up with the blogs that I read this morning.
Traveling by air does suck
We’re already talking about how to find money to cover our losses… but at our last admin. meeting we were told that we hadn’t seen the inevitable fall… yikes is the sky falling again.
I would have been very happy to have been born with Steve Job’s intellect, vision and courage, but I’m happier to have had parents that taught me the “golden rule” and encouraged me to be kind to everyone (well almost everyone). I have read that he could be quite mean if he didn’t get his way… and I guess we need people like that.
In the past three years I’ve lost both of my siblings leaving me the oldest member of my family who is living… that will wake you up. BUT it is inevitable and the natural onward movement of life… may we all rest in peace in the future. Sorry for your loss.
We have just reopened lending to D paper with scrutiny… our loan manager is a peach of a guy and I worry about his health from all the stress, but I wish all CUs had one like him. Let’s build relationships with people again.
I am our dishwasher on the weekend and my wife is the automatic dishwasher during the week.
980 mg of sodium might be a little high for my heart to handle.
Love to have you back.

Glenn,
It is so good to BE back and you are one of the reasons I will keep blogging.
I cannot even imagine the pain of losing a sibling. But you’re so right – we will all rest in peace some day.
Mark has me looking at sodium content now all the time – EVERYTHING, and I mean everything I love has a ton of sodium in it. Not fair!
